Colchester Castle is undoubtedly one of the area’s top attractions. Work began on it back in 1076 and it wasn’t finished until 1125. For the size of the place Colchester certainly enjoys its fair share of museums. There’s the Hollytrees Museum where you can explore family life over the past 300 years, including stories on real people’s lives. The Natural History Museum with its interesting take on the local environment. The Tymperleys Clock Museum bursting with classic examples of locally made clocks and the East Anglian Railway Museum spanning 150 years of railway history for all you trainspotters out there.
